Wintry mix could mess up morning commute in southern Wisconsin
Milwaukee Weather for Wednesday, Feb.28, PM Wochit
After a couple of relatively balmy days, a wintry mix of rain and snow overnight may make the ride to work Thursday morning a bit tricky.
The National Weather Service in Sullivan says periods of rain are expected Wednesday evening but likely will change to wet snow late in the night into Thursday morning across most of southern Wisconsin.
For the Milwaukee region and the rest of southeast Wisconsin, less than 1 inch of snow is expected Thursday.
It's also supposed to be windy, with gusts as high as 25. With the falling snow, that will create reduced visibility. Expect to drive slowly, the weather service said.
The low temperature Wednesday night is expected to be about 35 degrees after climbing to 45 earlier in the day. The high on Thursday is expected to be 38 with a low Thursday night of 27.
That's quite a change from Tuesday, when the high reached 60 degrees — about 30 degrees above normal. That had some people out in shorts and short-sleeved shirts. It was short of the record 65 set on Feb. 27, 1976, though. And it beats the alternative — on Feb. 27, 1879, it was a record minus 12.
Friday is expected to be sunny with a high of 39. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be sunny as well, with a high in the low to mid-40s.
