It was an exciting time for Lakeside Lutheran FFA students when they attended the state FFA convention in June because at that time the chapter was officially chartered as the newest Wisconsin FFA chapter.

In the past, some Lakeside Lutheran High School students participated in the Lake Mills FFA Chapter and met the necessary requirements to be members but with the addition of Jeff Meske, agriculture instructor and FFA advisor, to the Lakeside Lutheran faculty, the school was finally able to form its own chapter.

Last week the chapter held its second annual banquet with 118 people in attendance, including key note speaker Carrie Mess, known as Dairy Carrie. She shared her experiences farming and promoting agriculture and talked about the importance of helping to spread the story.

The banquet also included a live auction and recognized the recently chartered FFA Alumni group of parents, former FFA members and other supporters who will serve as auxiliary support for the student chapter.

Also new this year was a live auction featuring auctioneer Mike Stade who sold the donations of feed, clothing, gift baskets, a utility trailer and more.

Chapter FFA President Annah Dobson, says, 'Thanks to generous donations, $3600 was raised to begin a scholarship program for FFA members and in the future, for school-wide scholarship for students continuing in agriculture and technical school degrees.'

Dobson says the chapter grew its 20 charter members to 37 this year, with the majority being freshmen. Numerous awards were given to members for their achievements including Co-Star Greenhands Carson Brumm and Caitlin Condon; Star FFA member Annah Dobson; Star in Placement Jeremy Nehls; and DeKalb Agriculture Award Annah Dobson.

Three key awards were presented to active adult supporters including Kevin Voigt, Juneau, who received the honorary FFA degree; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Duwe, Johnson Creek, who were awarded with the Gold and Blue FFA Alumni Award and Steve Lauber, Lake Mills, who is admissions director at Lakeside Lutheran High School who was honored with the Friend of Lakeside Lutheran FFA award.
