A highlight of the Waupun Area FFA Chapter's National FFA Week celebration is the Annual FFA Trivia Contest held each year for the students of WAJSHS!
We thought it would be fun to see if the general public could answer these questions about the Wisconsin FFA. Are you ready? It's time to test your FFA knowledge of the Wisconsin FFA!
Which FFA Chapter is the largest with 356 members?
Which FFA Chapter was named the states' Top Chapter?
Which FFA Chapter is planning to package and distribute more than 50,000 meals to local food pantries this spring?
What is the only FFA Chapter to have five FFA advisors?
Which FFA Chapter can boast that they are part of Wisconsin's only K-12 agriculture education program?
Which chapter is exchanging socks and underwear for a trip to go snow tubing?
Which chapter has an awesome FFA Alumni that just purchased a 12-passenger van for them to use for traveling to events?
Do you have your answers? If you answered Waupun Area FFA Chapter to all of the questions, you would be correct! The theme of the Waupun FFA Chapter this year is 'Proud to be Wisconsin's Biggest and Best!'
The fun for this year began in June at the State FFA Convention when the chapter was recognized as the state's largest chapter and was named the state winner of the National Chapter Award! One of Wisconsin's agricultural newspapers used the headline 'Waupun FFA is Wisconsin's Biggest and Best!', and so our theme for the year was born.
The Waupun Agriculture Education program is unique in so many ways. To start we have five FFA advisors who are Tari Costello, Ryan Seichter, Kris Beaver, Mike Gross and Sheri Hicken. These individuals provide agriculture education programming to students in grades K-12 in the Waupun Area School District.
One of the reasons that the Waupun Area FFA Chapter has been successful is due in part to their community service programs.
Last year the Waupun FFA and FFA Alumni teamed up to package and distribute more than 20,000 meals. This year the chapter has set the goal of 50,000 meals to package and distribute locally. Another way the chapter helps to serve the community is by supporting Project REACH. Instead of charging members to attend a snow tubing event during National FFA Week, they have decided to collect packages of socks and underwear that will be donated to the REACH program.
During a recent radio interview we were asked to share why we thought this program was successful. That answer was easy: We have GREAT kids doing GREAT things who are supported by GREAT parents, schools, community and an AWESOME FFA Alumni chapter. As the saying goes, 'It takes a village.'
We appreciate all of the support that we receive from everyone. On behalf of the Waupun FFA Chapter, we want to especially thank the Waupun FFA Alumni for their tireless efforts on behalf of our members. This fall our Alumni purchased a 2015 12-passenger van for our use.
The Waupun FFA Chapter is led by an FFA Officer Team made up of eleven energetic youth consisting of Abby Henken, President; Dylon Pokorny, Vice President; Emily Schwanke, Secretary; Dan Harmsen, Treasurer; Megan VanRuiswyk, Reporter; Mykayla Kuhn, Historian; Blade Weber, Sentinel; Robert Woock, Parliamentarian; Logan Pluim, Food for America Chair; Kersten Henson, Community Service Chair; and Emma Stelsel, Safety Chair.
