The NW Wisconsin Graziers Network and UW-Extension will hold its first pasture walk of the 2018 grazing season, a multi-species pasture walk at Fieldstone family farm north of Webster in Burnett County on Saturday, June 23, from 10:00-12:00 noon.

The host farm is owned by LaVonne and Dan Murphy and has about 80 acres of land with a variety of animal enterprises of interest to both beginning and experienced graziers. Organic rearing of animals and sustainability of agriculture enterprises will be discussed along with answering any and all questions from pasture walk participants.

The Murphy’s rotationally graze their beef herd of about 20 head of Aberdeen Angus (Lowline) grass-fed beef cattle, they pasture Large Black hogs (a heritage breed), and organically raise both laying hens and broilers (Cornish cross breed comparison to Husky Reds). They are beginning a wooded pasture (silvopasture) development project on about 40 acres. LaVonne is getting familiar with cost share proposals and is developing a high tunnel greenhouse for vegetable production.

The farm is located at 27850 Robbie Road, east of Hwy 35 and about 3 miles north of Webster. From Webster, take Hwy 35 north 2 ½ miles, turn right or east on County Hwy C, drive about 3/4 mile, then turn left or north on Robbie Road.  Drive about 1/4 mile north to the farm entrance. Watch for the signs.

For more information, contact LaVonne at 763-226-6200, Kevin Schoessow, UW-Extension, Spooner office at 715-635-3506, or Lynn Johnson 715-268-8778 at NW Graziers.
