Forage Councils to hold Twilight meeting June 20

UW-Extension, Dodge and Fond du Lac County.

LOMIRA - Every year the Forage Councils for Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties rotate hosting their annual Twilight meeting. This year’s Dodge and Fond du Lac and Dodge County Forage Councils’ Twilight Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 20, at the Michels Family Farm just east of Lomira.

Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and the speakers will start at 7:00 p.m.

The Michels Family Farm milks 375 cows and crops 550 acres. They grow alfalfa and corn for grain and silage.

Keynote speaker at this year’s Twilight meeting is Dr. Jennifer Van Os, UW-Madison Extension specialist on animal welfare, who will talk about “Why millennials care about animal production practices and what it means to you.”

Other speakers and topics include: the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department addressing new weight limits; Amanda Young, UW-Extension dairy & livestock educator, sharing results from a recent Dodge & Fond du Lac County cropland rental rate survey; and Dr. Loretta Ortiz-Ribbing providing a brief overview about available cover crop cost share funds and producer led groups for both Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties.

Food and beverages will follow the program. Sponsors of the program will be recognized at the event.

This program is open to all interested producers and Forage Council Members. Sponsored jointly with the Midwest Forage Association and the University of Wisconsin-Extension, the Twilight Meeting is one of many educational opportunities offered by the Forage Councils.
