Fire destroys shed at New Holstein dairy farm
NEW HOLSTEIN - Fire destroyed a large machine shed and its contents late Sunday at The Park Farm LLC dairy farm, W620 Calumet County HH, in the town of New Holstein.
The property is owned by Josh Mertens, chief of the St. Anna Fire Department.
Mertens said he and his father discovered the fire shortly before 10 p.m.
"It was pretty much engulfed by the time we got anywhere with it," Mertens told USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin. "It's pretty much a total loss — the building and everything in it."
The machine shed contained a shop, supplies and equipment, including tractors.
Mertens said firefighters from 22 departments responded to the scene. They cleared about 2:30 a.m. Monday.
The cause of the fire hasn't been determined. "Not a clue," Mertens said. "I didn't do any investigating because it's my property."
No one was injured, and no animals were lost.
