Wisconsin State Farmer
The book "The Soils of Wisconsin" is the first account of the state's soils in more than 40 years. Information about the book is available at the new USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Wisconsin website.

MADISON - A new Wisconsin soils website is available for public use through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The website includes new tools, information, resources and technologies for farmers and partners interested in soils and farm soil health.

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) works to provide assistance and education on healthy soil and other natural resource issues.

One of NRCS's main focuses is the Wisconsin Cooperative Soils Program, which is part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey.

Soil is a vital part of the natural environment. It influences the distribution of plant species and provides a habitat for a wide range of organisms. It controls the flow of water and other substances between the atmosphere and the earth, feeds and nurtures farm crops, and much more.

Soil, together with the plant and animal life it supports, forms an amazing, intricate natural system.
