Pesticide applicator training set in Dodge, Vernon counties
Juneau - Dodge County farmers whose pesticide applicators certification has expired or first-time applicators will want to register for one of two training sessions or for a self-study program in order to acquire their General Farming Private Applicator’s License.
Current applicators whose certification is expiring will be receiving notification in the mail.
Training sessions will be held Wednesday, February 1st or Thursday, March 9th, 2017 in the Dodge County Administration Building Auditorium. Fee of $45 includes two resource books and catered lunch. Registration and fee payment for PAT classes must be done in person, at least seven days prior to the training/testing date, or a $5 late fee will be applied. Expiring applicators will be taking home manuals with them at registration for studying.
Each session begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. At the conclusion of instruction, attendees will take an open-book examination (50 percent minimum passing score).
Self-study recertification is also available. Study the book and schedule a testing appointment in advance with the Dodge County UW-Extension Office to take an open-book examination (70 percent minimum passing score). Fee of $30 includes one resource book. Self-study registration may be done one day prior to testing date at the Dodge County UW-Extension Office, 127 E. Oak Street, Juneau, WI. Phone and mail registrations for PAT are not accepted. The 2017 Pest Management Guide A3646 is available for purchase at $15.00.
The pesticide applicators training course will focus on the four steps of an Integrated Pest Management program: set action thresholds; monitor and identify pests; prevention; and control.
The program will also include a discussion of Pesticides and the Law, Reading the Pesticide Label, Safety and Emergencies, Calibrating Spray Equipment and other topics.
This course is offered by the University of Wisconsin-Cooperative Extension and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). Other private applicator training for Greenhouse & Nursery, Fruit Crops and Commercial Applicator training are offered by DATCP.

Vernon County
The Vernon County UW-Extension Office will again be conducting training sessions for private pesticide applicators. Participation in a training session and the successful completion of the test satisfies the requirements for certification or re-certification of private applicators. Pesticide applicator training and certification allows farmers to use pesticides classified as restricted use.
The location and dates of the training sessions are: Viroqua on Wednesday, Feb. 1, and Wednesday, Feb. 8. All sessions will start promptly at 10 a.m. and conclude by 4:30 p.m. Maximum attendance size for each session is 35.
Preregistration is required. To register and receive the required book for either session, applicators need to stop in prior to the day of training at the UW-Extension Office located in the Erlandson Office Building on the second floor, just north of Viroqua.
