Midwest Manure Summit scheduled for Feb. 21 to 23

Green Bay — In conjunction with sponsors from the private sector, the University of Wisconsin Extension Service will be hosting the 2017 Midwest Manure Summit on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 22 and 23, at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center.

Presenters from throughout the country are scheduled at the summit, which is being co-sponsored by the Dairy Business Association, AgSource Laboratories, Dairymaster USA and Foxland Harvestore.

Attendees are also invited to consider a pre-conference training day on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Presented in differing tracks, the pre-conference will focus on the operation of anaerobic manure bio-digesters, manure storage and handling and safety practices.

Summit sessions

Topics for the summit sessions, which begin at 10 a.m. Feb. 22, include manure processing, the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh's experiences with bio-digesters, the effect of dairy cattle feeding on manure nutrients, manure irrigation techniques, the concerns to human health arising from irrigating manure, and the use of antibiotics in animal agriculture.

For the Feb. 23 presentations that begin at 9 am, the topics are manure economics, hydrogen sulfide and other manure gases, the use of gypsum in bedding, the prevention of manure spills, and manure safety practices.

Registration information

Until Feb. 6, the registration fees are $150 for the pre-summit day on Feb. 21 and $225 for the summit on February 22 and 23. They then increase to $200 and $300 respectively. The walk-in registration fee is $350.
