Hoof health meetings scheduled for Jan. 18

Luxemburg/Fond du Lac — Dairy cow hoof health information meetings sponsored by University of Wisconsin Extension Service's dairy team will be held in two counties on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

The morning session will start at 10 am on the Kewaunee County fairgrounds at 625 3rd Street in Luxemburg. The afternoon session will begin at 1 pm at Extension Service office at 400 University Drive in Fond du Lac.

University of Wisconsin – Madison veterinarian Dorte Dopfer will be the guest presenter at both sessions. Her topic will be how to manage digital dermatitis and other foot diseases in dairy herds.

At the session in Luxemburg, Kewaunee County agriculture agent Aerica Bjurstrom will report the results of a recent survey on the prevalence of digital dermatitis and hoof health management practices that was conducted on dairy farms in eastern Wisconsin. Fond du Lac County dairy and livestock agent Tina Kohlman will give that report at the afternoon meeting.

There is no cost to attend either meeting but persons planning to attend are asked to pre-register by Monday, Jan. 16 so arrangements can be made for materials and light refreshments. Contact the Extension Service office in the host county to register.
