Among the many permits that a CAFO must be approved for is a nutrient management plan.

Eight workshops for owners and managers of permitted Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation facilities in Wisconsin have been scheduled for mid-winter in 2017.

The nutrient management plan writers and engineers working with the approximately 285 CAFOs in the state are also invited to the update sessions.

Starting Tuesday, Jan. 31, sessions will be held in Green Bay at 8 am and in New London at noon. The same starting times apply respectively for the next day (Feb. 1) for workshops in Manitowoc and Fond du Lac.

On Monday, Feb. 6, a CAFO workshop will be held in Jefferson. On the next day, at a time yet to be determined, an update will be held in Dodgeville.

Noon will be the starting time for the final two workshops in the 2017 series. They will be held Thursday, Feb 9, in Rice Lake and Friday, Feb. 10, in Marshfield.

The workshops are a cooperative venture of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the University of Wisconsin Extension Service and the host counties. For more information, call Kevin Erb at 920-391-4652.
