Cars made of potatoes, cucumbers, carrots and onions are revving their engines for the 2016 Wisconsin State Fair, August 4-14 in West Allis. The Veggie 500 fun returns to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection's Farm & Family Building, along with fun games, button making and more.

Each day of the fair the Wisconsin State FFA Officers will run six Veggie 500 races an hour. Fairgoers can select their favorite veggie car from the line-up to race down the 16-foot track. All participants will receive a special bookmark.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, DATCP staff will lead fairgoers through a scavenger hunt in the Farm & Family Building. By stopping by at least four of our stations and playing a game, visitors will receive a punch on their card. Once visitors have four punches, they can color their very own button to take home.

The games feature different topics that DATCP connects with every day from Wisconsin agriculture to food safety to consumer protection. Fairgoers can plan to toss bean bags in the Cow Pie Pitch; play Bag the Bacteria, DATCP's version of Plinko; dig in dried corn and soybeans in the Digging Agriculture bins; and spin the giant Something Special from Wisconsin™ wheel.

There is fun for all ages. Adults should stop by to take the Consumer Challenge and learn more about common scams, identity theft and landlord/tenant issues.

Ann O'Leary, the 69th Alice in Dairyland, will make daily visits in the Farm & Family Building to sign postcards and posters and meet with fairgoers. There will also be a literature rack available with information for farmers, consumers and businesses.

The Farm & Family Building, open 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. each day of the fair, is located in Ag Village, just west of the Badgerland Financial Discovery Barnyard. Learn more about the Wisconsin State Fair at
