Belted Galloway field day slated

ROCK SPRINGS, WI

The Great Lakes Belted Galloway Association will holds its annual Field Day at Messmerizing Farms at E8516 Quarry Rd., Rock Springs, WI, on Saturday, June 25.

Check-in for the event is from 7:30-8:15 a.m. on Saturday followed by informational seminars and tours.

Belted Galloways are an heirloom breed of beef cattle. Messmer-Izing Farm is a 50-acre rotational grazing operation punctuated by whimsical gardens and nestled along the forests of the Baraboo Bluffs. The Messmers are the proud owner/operators of this registered Beltie operation where they raise both breeding stock and a limited supply of beef.

As hosts of this year's event, the Messmers have arranged for a day packed with demonstrations and informational speakers. Check-in will begin at 7:45a.m. with talks beginning at 8:30 a.m.. Talks and demonstrations will include a hoof demo by an internationally renowned expert Karl Burgi; veterinary insight on embryo transplants, vaccinating to optimize reproductive health; the importance of health paper and testing for disease.

There will also be a demo/cooking talk on shoulder cuts of meat with an emphasis on how to prepare/cook lean beef. The event will also feature a farm tour with talks on effectively using online services, soil building, grass growing, farm improvement funding, as well as open forum talks, an auction to benefit the Great Lakes Area 5 BYG Jrs., and more.

The annual business meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 26 at Ho-Chunk Casino.

Pre-registration is required a week in advance. Advance tickets sales for Saturday are $40 per person and includes lunch and dinner. A limited number of seating for walk-ins and meals is available at $50 per person.
