Predator management on agenda
MINONG, WI
This year's regional cow-calf meeting will focus on predator management issues. The meeting is set for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 21, at the Minong Center,212 W. 5th St., Minong, WI, located in northern Washburn County.
The morning agenda includes an update on the Beef Industry by UW-Extension Economist Dr. Brenda Boetel of UW-River Falls; composting animal carcasses by Adam Hady, UW-Extension; black bear and wolf management in WI by David MacFarland of WDNR; black bear and wolf damage management program in WI by Brad Koele, WDNR.
Afternoon topics include integrated predator damage management in WI by Dave Ruid, USDA-WS and the use of livestock guard dogs for cattle by Mike Marlow of the USDA.
The event will conclude with predator abatement techniques and pasture walk at the Larry and Deb Radzak beef farm at Chittamo about 7 miles east of Minong on County Highway G. Signs will be posted.
The event is sponsored by UW-Extension, USDA-APHIS Wildlife Services, Wis DNR and the NW Wis Graziers Network.
