Professional Dairy Producers: Four Wisconsin farm families to host Twilight Meetings in August

Wisconsin State Farmer
Tom Oberhaus, owner of Cozy Nook Farm in Waukesha County, talks about raising calves during a Professional Dairy Producers (PDPW) ACE Twilight meeting on Aug. 30, 2017.

It’s no secret that dairy farms and the dairy industry are an important part of Wisconsin’s rural communities and economy.  However, community leaders, elected officials and citizens often have questions about modern dairy farming practices and business models.

A series of 2018 PDPW ACE On-the-Farm Twilight Meetings scheduled for Aug. 27-31 and hosted by Wisconsin Towns Association, Wisconsin Counties Association and Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW).  Through a joint initiative called Agricultural Community Engagement® (ACE), the three organizations will provide an opportunity for open discussions on farming practices, resources and any other topics important to Wisconsin communities.

Each meeting is free and open to the public, beginning with a dairy farm tour at 6 p.m., followed by ice cream at 7 p.m., and facilitated discussion about dairy farming that will last until about 8:30 p.m.

The Twilight meetings will be held:
•    Monday, Aug. 27 – Kellercrest Holsteins, 1141 County Hwy JG South, Mount Horeb, Wis.
•    Tuesday, Aug. 28 – Miltrim Farms, 1715 W. Townline Road, Athens, Wis.
•    Wednesday, Aug. 29 – Brey Cycle Farm LLC, 2139 County Road O, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
•    Thursday, Aug. 30 – Double S Dairy, N3447 Marshview Road., Markesan, Wis.

“We’re excited to offer these Twilight meetings for community members to engage with dairy farm families and see modern agriculture firsthand,” said Cassie Mayer, PDPW Program Manager and dairy farmer in Slinger, Wis.  “The discussions between community and business leaders, elected officials and dairy farmers are extremely valuable.  We are dedicated to provide the platform through our ACE partnership with the Wisconsin Counties and Wisconsin Towns Associations and producer-led committee, to create a venue that will enable those conversations and help find common ground where we can grow together in rural America.”
