MADISON – The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA) will hold the Champion Cheese Auction at the International Cheese Technology Expo (ICTE) in the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee from 5:30 - 7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 18.

“We’re honored when supporters bid big to snag the best cheeses in the world and fuel our growing catalog of education and training programs at WCMA,” said John Umhoefer, WCMA Executive Director.

In addition to building WCMA training series, auction proceeds support WCMA’s strategic gifts to universities focused on dairy research and education. In recent years, WCMA has directed $500,000 to the construction of the new Center for Dairy Research at the University of Wisconsin’s Babcock Hall, $200,000 for the renovation of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Dairy Pilot Plant, and $50,000 to support the cheesemaking facility at South Dakota State University.
Additionally, WCMA supports dairy producer organizations focused on dairy education as well as the Collegiate Dairy Products Evaluation Contest. WCMA also awards $15,000 each year in student scholarships.

“The generosity of Auction bidders enables WCMA to make a positive impact in our industry, and we’re grateful to the industry partners who support our endeavors through participation in this fun event,” said Umhoefer.

Eighty-six amazing, gold medal cheeses, arranged in 42 items for bid, will be on the auction block including the 2018 World Champion Cheese: Esquirrou from the Basque region in southern France.
