WFU to host Produce Safety rule training in Green Bay

Wisconsin State Farmer
Wisconsin Farmers Union

CHIPPEWA FALLS – Wisconsin Farmers Union is inviting farmers to learn more about the Produce Safety rule during a training from 10 a.m. to noon April 7 in Room 107 of the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Landscape Horticulture Building, located on the grounds of the Green Bay Botanical Garden at 2594 Larsen Rd., Green Bay.

The Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA) was created in 2014 to address food safety concerns and give farmers a set of standards for safe growing, harvesting, packing and holding practices.

The training features peer-to-peer learning about how to make sure your farm is compliant. Attendees will learn what produce on their farm is covered and subject to the Produce Safety Rule under FSMA. Cost is $15 for WFU members or $30 for nonmembers, which includes lunch.

This is the first in a series of workshops WFU will be hosting. Please note this training is meant to be informational only and will not include Produce Safety rule training certification.

RSVPs are appreciated but not required. For details, contact Kirsten Slaughter at 608-514-2031 or kslaughter@wisconsinfarmersunion.com.
