Craving something sweet? This upcoming store in San Angelo can help
SAN ANGELO – Between teaching, raising her two kids with her husband and finding the balance between work, family and life, this San Angelo woman was also cooking up her dream.
"I had always wanted a storefront bakery," said Sabrina Blasingame, Grape Creek ISD's facilitator and teacher for dual credit and credit recovery. "I grew up baking with my grandmother who was the BEST baker I’ve ever known."
Her first "full out" cake she made was for her daughter, now 17 years old.
"My daughter requested a tea party with her friends and wanted a fairy cake," Blasingame said. "It was perfect practice and I found another passion, cake decorating."
Though Blasingame's passion began in 2010, she didn't start Sugar High Bake Shop until December 2018. She started selling cupcakes, cookies and cakes under the Texas Cottage Food Law.
"We were looking for something catchy that would explain what we are all about ... sugar," Blasingame said. "My husband actually came up with the name."
Her bakery business went online at sugarhighbakeshop.com, and she started selling at Cactus Market Days, which is where a Sunset Mall representative discovered her.
That chance encounter led to Blasingame opening the first location for Sugar High, which will open at noon Saturday, May 4, at Sunset Mall, 4001 Sunset Drive.
"I immediately knew this was the right move," Blasingame said. "It was a fast-moving process that just felt right."
The Sugar High Bake Shop will settle into a kiosk across from Chick-fil-A and Bath & Body Works.
Sugar High will offer cupcakes, paint-your-own cookies for children, brownies, mini-loaf cakes and Keto, and sugar-free and gluten-free goodies.
Here are the prices for the Sugar High sweets:
- Single cupcakes are $2.50 and a dozen is $28.
- Sugar-free and gluten-free cupcakes are $4 each or $48 per dozen.
- Cakes start at $40, depending on size and design.
- Custom cookies start at $25 per dozen, depending on design.
- Gluten free cookies start at $40 per dozen, depending on design.
The sweets will be made from scratch with top-quality ingredients, Blasingame said.
Sugar High will be open noon-9 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays.
For the opening-day celebration, there will be two giveaways. One giveaway prize will be a dozen traditional cupcakes. To win this, make a purchase on opening day to be entered into the drawing.
The second giveaway can be entered by leaving a Facebook review on opening day.
