Art's Bistro

Opened: April 25

Art Rahman always wanted to open his own restaurant. He never knew he'd be able to tie it in with his fitness training as well. The bistro aims so sell food that's good, and good for you.

Opened: February

This Asian fusion restaurant is owned by Nikki Phan and her family of New England natives. Previously, they owned Hong & Nikki's Asian Foods food truck on Goodfellow Air Force Base and a Japanese restaurant in New England.

Brady Bunch Boutique

Address:  Sunset Mall, 4001 Sunset Drive

Opened: Jan. 15

Brady Bunch Boutique is a family-owned business that has operated at 114 N. 8th Street in Ballinger for the last six years. Hours at the new store will be Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

B's Corner Store

Address: 3206 Millbrook Drive

Opening: June 1

The new shop will have everything most convenient stores have with an edition of drinks like Bang Energy and a type of ionized water. They will also of pet items for people who walk their dogs along the Red Arroyo. The one thing they won't have is gas pumps.

Conn's HomePlus

Address: 4000 Sunset Drive

Opening: July

Conn's HomePlus is a retail store that sells home appliances, refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers, dishwashers, ranges, consumer electronics, furniture and more. They will be locating to the old Sears at Sunset Mall.

Corny Pops Gourmet Popcorn

Address: 2221 Ave. N

Opened: April 29

Corny Pops Gourmet Popcorn, 2221 Ave. N, will offer fresh popcorn, fudge and other sweet treats when it opens in March. Gabriel "Pops" Rangel, owner of the upcoming shop, has big plans for the business. There will be as many as 40 flavors of popcorn, ranging from vanilla to churro, and 50-60 flavors of "shave ice." Various fudge and frosted nuts will also be available.

The hours will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and closed Sunday.

El Rincon De San Miguel

Address: 2605 N. Chadbourne Street

Opened: April 27

Waitress Chela Chacoen said they make their tortillas and salsa with fresh ingredients every day. They pride themselves on their Tortas, which are sandwiches made with meat and cheese. Options they sell are asada (grilled steak), chicken, pastor (marinated pork), chorizo and barbacoa.

Address:  2220 Sherwood Way

Opened: Jan. 21

Exclusive is here to revolutionize the hair industry with energy, positivity, love, and style, according to their Facebook page. The hair salon offers its for men, women and children.


Opened: Feb. 18

Favor, an online food and grocery delivery service, will deliver from restaurants like Cork & Pig, Zero One Ale House and The Grill. Stores included will be H-E-B, Walmart and CVS. Favor runners will also pick up dry cleaning.

Favor's standard delivery fee is $6, which will be waived for the first week. Favor will also deliver beer and wine exclusively from H-E-B, a news release states.

To place an order, download the Favor app, sign up with an email address or through Facebook, find a restaurant or grocery store and place an order. The service will not have a minimum order requirement.

Fitness 1440

Opened: Feb. 15

Where: Sunset Mall, 4001 Sunset Drive

Fitness 1440 in the San Angelo Sunset Mall, 4001 Sunset Drive, hopes to help the community make the most of every minute.

The gym offers strength, agility and other training 24 hours, seven days a week. It will be at the southern entrance of the mall. 

Classes offered include:

  • Les Mills Bodypump — a total body barbel workout
  • Les Mills Bodyflow —  uses yoga, Tai Chi and pilates to build flexibility and strength.
  • Les Mills GRIT — 30-minute high-intensity interval training workout using barbells, weight plate and body weight exercises. 
  • RPM — indoor cycling workout.
  • Zumba

Five Below

Opening: Fall 2019

Where: 4161 Sunset Drive

 A retail store selling trendy merchandise geared toward teens and tweens has plans for San Angelo.

Five Below, which sells toys, beauty items, sporting goods and more for $5 or less, will be opening in the former Rue 21 store at 4161 Sunset Drive in Fall of 2019.

Heff's Burgers

Address: 2902 Sherwood Way.

Opening: Unknown

Heff's Burgers was previously at 2017 N. Bryant Blvd. but were locked out due to $48 thousand in unpaid rent. The owner is reopening Heff's over a year later.

Helen's Bistro and Bakery

Address: 1529 W. Avenue N

Opening: Summer 2019

Helen Keith, chef of the Silo House and co-owner with her husband, is excited to announce the new home for her food at 1529 W. Ave. N. Helen's Bistro and Bakery will greet customers around March, 2019.

Helen's Bistro Chapter 2

Address: 33 W. Beauregard Ave.

Opened: April 1

The vacant cafe inside the library at 33 W.  Beauregard Ave. will be taken over by Helen's Bistro, which will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Chef Helen Keith and her husband, Craig, plan to have a coffee bar, sandwiches, breakfast and morning pastries. Everything will be priced under $10 and breakfast will be under $5.

Opened: March 18

Hooters is well known for it's wings and waitresses. A peek at the menu gives items such as bacon wrapped wings, the "Big Hootie" burger and Hooters original "original buffalo shrimp.

Larry's Garage Bar and Grill

Address: 607 S. Chadbourne

Opened: Feb. 1

Larry's will stress cleanliness, fast service and a "big family style" feel, owner Larry Rubio said. He also wants to create a family-friendly environment, offering student deals.

One of those deals will be letting students bring report cards with all-"A"s for a free meal, as long as the parent buys their own. There will also be discounts for military, Angelo State University students and group events.

Luxury Nails

Address: Suite 109, 3315 Sherwood Way

Opened: April 6

This new nail salon boasts a "calm and relaxing environment that will begin with our “5 Star Service” as your walk in the door," according to its Facebook page.

Madison's Avenue Boutique to Antiques

Address: 111 Paintrock Road

Opened: June 4

This shop offers clothes, crafts, antiques and other interesting items.

Masa Sushi & Japanese Grill

Address: 4545 Sherwood Way

Opening: June 7

This restaurant offers sushi, hibachi and an array of Asian food to San Angelo. Prices range from $2.50 for Onion Mushroom Soup to $79.95 for The Love Boat sushi entree.

Newk's Eatery

Address: 5582 Sherwood Way

Opened: Feb. 11

Newk's Eatery is a "fast-casual" shop that sells sandwiches, salads, soups, pizza and more. People can eat at the restaurant or order take-out.

Co-franchisee Patrick Lashford said the restaurant at 5582 Sherwood Way, should be opening in early 2019.

Opened: Feb. 15

Where: 2525 S. Johnson St.

Nexcel, a company selling products derived from hemp plants, has moved to San Angelo. Health and wellness adviser Janet Henshaw said the ownership group moved the company to San Angelo due to their love for the community and because they believe it's a great place to spread the word about cannabidiol, perhaps better known as CBD.

A natural compound found in both marijuana and hemp plants, CBD has been used to a treat a variety of ailments. The extract is non-intoxicating.

Nexcel's products are 100 percent THC free and for medical use only, Henshaw said. The average price is about $64 per month.

Opened: Feb. 21

This tea shop offers over 200 varieties of loose leaf teas, according to its website. The franchise also has locations across the state in Kerrville, Amarillo and Owasso.

The hours will be Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Old Central Firehouse Bed & Brew

Opened: April

San Angelo locals Michele and Jody Babiash are in the process of turning the old firehouse building, 200 S Magdalen St., into a bed and brew.

The upstairs bedrooms will open around February, but the downstairs won't be operated until late 2019, as it still requires a lot of work. They originally planned for December, but that was only a rough date.

Opened: Jan. 24

Orangetheory Fitness, a class-based fitness center, will be opening up in early 2019 at 5582 Sherwood Way, behind Chick-fil-A. Studio manager Angie Lynch said while they don't have a date set in stone, they are shooting for early January.

Address: 716 Knickerbocker Road

Opened: January

Tucked into a series of long buildings sits a new business selling Texas-made sauces and salsas.  Salsa-Basket opened its doors in January. The store has about 30 varieties of salsas, jams and more. The best-selling products include Bacon Flavored Salsa, Pineapple Salsa and Strawberry Jalapeno Jam.

Sugar High Bake Shop

Address: Sunset Mall, 4001 Sunset Drive

Opened: May 4

Offering an array of cookies, cakes and cupcakes, this home baker and Grape Creek High School teacher is ready to show San Angelo what she can do. Sabrina Blasingame started her bakery from her home kitchen under the Texas Cottage Food Law in December 2018 but has been making cakes since 2010.

Taco Bueno

Address: 5590 Sherwood Way

Opened: April 

The fast-casual Tex-Mex chain restaurant offers burritos, tacos, quesadillas and nachos; sides including black beans and cilantro lime rice; and desserts such as cheesecake chimichangas and churros. There also are vegetarian options.

The franchise owners are Larry and Kimberly Coon, who are also franchisees for Little Caesar's Pizza in San Angelo.

Address: 2005 Knickerbocker Road

Opened: March 5

Tossed, a Florida based restaurant, announced its first Texas location will be in San Angelo, opening in the former Al's Formal Wear location at The Shops of Stadium Park, 2005 Knickerbocker Road. Tossed boasts a motto of "fresh food fast" and offers salads, hot bowls, soups, sandwiches, pitas, smoothies and more.

Ultimate Air Trampoline Park

Address: 4169 West 306 Loop

Opening: Fall 2019

This will be Ultimate Air's fifth location. Its current locations are Jonesboro, Arkansas; Stillwater, Oklahoma; Scott City, Missouri; and Maui, Hawaii.

Unifeye Security Systems

Address: 4934 Armstrong St.

Opened: January

Two San Angelo natives have started up their own security system company to help secure businesses and homes in San Angelo and the surrounding area.

Opened: Jan. 24

Waitr, a food delivery smartphone app, allows its users to order meals online from participating restaurants then sends a driver to deliver your meal for a flat fee of $5, which will apply to all orders regardless of size or the customer’s distance from the restaurant, according to the release.

Waitr is available in more than 235 cities in 10 states, which includes Houston, Beaumont, Longview, Tyler, Waco, Temple, Killeen, Corpus Christi, Victoria and Galveston, the release states.

San Angelo has been touted to become the first Waitr city in West Central Texas.

Winner's Circle

Address: 2410 Vanderventer St.

Opened: March 15

The shop plans to open at 2410 Vanderventer Street on March 15. Field operations manager Luisa Nakamura said the store will feature a game room and a memorabilia shop.

"We will have sports and pop culture memorabilia like cards, figurines, comics and more," Nakamura said.

For gaming, she said the shop will have tabletop games like Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon and Magic the Gathering. Some of the games are free to play, but some, like Magic the Gathering, will cost money.
