Holstein Association USA honors outstanding junior breeders

Wisconsin youth were among the junior members honored by the Holstein Association USA who have bred and own exceptional Holstein cattle.

The awards, based on both conformation and milk production, are designed to reward and encourage Junior members to continue their excellent Registered Holstein® breeding programs. All eligible cows are automatically screened for these awards on an annual basis.

Mell0Wood McCutchen 2155-N, owned by Sydni, Samuel and Blake Mell placed tenth in the category of 2020 National Junior Star Performer Award. This award recognizes well-rounded Holstein cows with exceptional milk and component production, as well as admirable classification scores.

Evan Strack's New-Day E Megasire Princess earned a ninth place ranking in the National Cream of the Crop Award. This award recognizes the top 75 Junior-owned Registered Holstein cows that have produced the highest combined pounds of fat and protein during a 305-day lactation.

Colton, Ashley, Justin, and Katie Brandel were among a select group of junior members who own a cow that has produced over 150,000 lbs. of milk in her lifetime.

Other recognition Holstein Association USA Junior members can achieve include the National Junior Breeder of an Excellent Cow Award, which was awarded to 174 cows owned by 169 different Junior members this year, Cole, Ava, Campbell & Royce Booth (2);  Jacob, Logan & Madison Harbaugh & Adella Loehr; Brianna Adamavich; Chase & Willow Oehmichen  (2); Kylie Nickels; Sara M Dorshorst; Trystan Christoph (2); Derek Christoph; Aaliyah Borchert (2); Christopher Gunst (3); Levi L Kindschi; Payton, Braelyn & Reagan Sarbacker; Grady & Lane Wendorf; Matt, Elizabeth, Cathryn (2) & Chris Gunst; Emma, Sara Wyatt & Claire Dorshorst; Hunter Crowley; Adam & Claire Bindl and Olivia & Kaden Horn.

Three cows bred by junior members were recognized for the Junior Breeder of a Multiple "E" Cow Award, a program designed to recognize National Junior Members of the Holstein Association USA who have bred a Holstein cow who has been officially type classified Multiple "E" Excellent. and the National Junior Breeder of a Multiple "E" Cow Award.

Of the 30 cows recognized by 34 different Junior members here are the Wisconsin honorees: Carn-Quest Dempsey Falcon, 2E EX-91 and Carn-Quest Bradnick Gypsy, 2E EX-93 owned by Ashley Carns and Ryan-Vu Chelios Mocha, 2E EX-94 bred by Dylan & Cameron Ryan.
