BYRON -  Livestock perished during a calf barn fire that broke out in freezing weather Friday afternoon in Fond du Lac County.

When Fond du Lac County sheriff's deputies arrived at about 1:30 p.m. at N3340 Hwy 175 in the town of Byron, they found a calf barn engulfed in flames. 

Six head of cattle were not able to be removed from the barn and were lost in the fire, along with an all-terrain vehicle, the sheriff's office reported.

Property owner Herman Steger reported that the 24 by 32 foot barn was destroyed.   

No one was injured in the blaze, and the sheriff's department says the cause of the fire does not appear be suspicious. 

The fire shut down Highway 175 between County F and Church Road for about an hour. 

Fire departments from Oakfield, Brownsville, Eden, city and town of Fond du Lac Fire, Lamartine and Knowles, as well as Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.
