LYNNFIELD, MA - Over 145,000 half-gallon cartons of Blue Diamond Almond Breeze nut 'milk' was recalled in  28 state, including Wisconsin, due to containing real cow's milk.

HP Hood Foods issued the voluntary recall on Aug. 2, noting that milk is considered an allergen and was not listed on the label, according to a news release.

The Food and Drug Administration noted that as of Thursday, Aug. 2, there has been one report of a person experiencing an allergic reaction after consuming the product. FDA officials confirmed that medical treatment nor hospitalization was required in that incident.

Approximately 145,254 half-gallon cartons of the affected product were shipped to retailers and wholesalers in Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The affected milk alternative is found in the refrigerated section, and has a use-by date of September 2, 2018. Shelf-stable (non-refrigerated) varieties are not, at this point, part of the recall.

To identify the affected product, consumers should look for the stamped information printed as:

  • USE BY: SEP 02 18 (07:36 – 20:48) H5 L1 51-4109
  • USE BY: SEP 02 18 (07:36 – 20:48) H5 L2 51-4109
  • USE BY: SEP 02 18 (07:36 – 20:48) H6 L1 51-4109
  • USE BY: SEP 02 18 (07:36 – 20:48) H6 L2 51-4109

Recalled products will also contain a Universal Product Code (UPC barcode) of 41570 05621 on the side panel of the carton next to the nutrition facts.

Consumers who purchased a product impacted by the recall should return the item to the store where is was purchased for a full refund, or contact Blue Diamond at bluediamond.com or by calling 800-400-1522.
