In case you missed it: 5 ag stories from May 7 - 11, 2018

Didn't have time to follow all the news this week? Here are five stories you might have missed. 

1. Regardless of how much field work farmers need to complete before the end of May, producers with herds of about no more than 200 cows should set aside time to visit their county Farm Service Agency before the end of the month before the June 1 deadline to apply for the 2018 Margin Protection Program. 

2. Industrial hemp and CBD oil were in the news this past week as the Wisconsin Farm Bureau met with the Department of Justice and Attorney General Brad Schimel. The meeting focused on the effect of 2017 Wisconsin Act 100 on Wisconsin's existing law concerning CBD and THC after hundreds of farmers who applied to grow industrial hemp were left wondering what to do. 

3. White house sessions on ethanol ended the week with President Donald Trump allowing year-round sales of renewable fuel with blends of 15 percent ethanol as part of an emerging deal to make changes to the federal ethanol mandate. Farm-state lawmakers have pushed for greater sales of the higher ethanol blend to boost demand for the corn-based fuel.

4. Looking for ways to improve the sustainability of how to apply and use manure on crops and find more value in the manure? A presentation from a Michigan State University biosystems and agricultural engineer will demystify manure treatment technology options.

5. A Clintonville woman accused of stealing $32,000 from the Shawano FFA Alumni was charged in Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court.
