Wisconsin 4-H livestock judging, skillathon teams compete in national events

MADISON - Wisconsin county 4-H teams took part in representing the state at national judging events.

The Marathon County 4-H team attended the Ak-Sar-Ben National Quiz bowl contest on Sept. 30, 2017 in Grand Island, NE. Marathon County 4-H earned the right to compete by winning the Wisconsin competition in March. The Wisconsin team competed in three rounds before being eliminated from competition.  

Wisconsin Team members included: Emilie Pauls, Kailen Smerchek, Stephanie Witberler and Cortney Zimmerman. They were coached by Mark Zimmerman.

Marathon County earned the right to compete at the National contest by winning the senior division at the 2017 WI 4-H Livestock Quiz bowl and Skill event.  The 2018 state contest will be held on Saturday, March 3, at UW-Madison.

Meat judging

Marathon County 4-H also attended the 2017 American Royal Meats Judging Contest on Oct. 17, 2017 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. 

There were 53 youth from 14 states that took part in this year's event.

Team members were Emilie Pauls, Kailen Smercheck, Stephanie Witberler and Cortney Zimmerman. The team was coached by Mark Zimmerman.

North American International Livestock Skillathon Contest:  November 13, 2017 Wisconsin 4-H Team attending:  Iowa County 4-H

A team from Iowa County finished 10th overall at the 2017 North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, KY in the Livestock Skillathon Contest. 

The team included: Morgan Fitzsimmons, Paige Gaffney and Nathan Daniels and was coached by Val Gaffney.

Morgan Fitzsimmons earned All-American status by finishing 18th overall. The team also placed ninth overall in Evaluation, seventh overall in Quality Assurance, with Morgan Fitzsimmons finishing 1st overall.   

Morgan Fitzsimmons of Iowa County 4-H received her all American belt buckle for earning 18th place overall individual in livestock skillathon at the 2017 North American International Livestock Exposition.

Iowa County earned the right to compete at the National contest by place second in the senior division at the 2017 WI 4-H Livestock Quiz bowl and Skill event. 

The 2018 State Contest will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at UW-Madison.

A team from Manitowoc County represented Wisconsin at the 2017 National 4-H Judging Contest held in Louisville, KY as part of the North American International Livestock Exposition.  For full results and more information, check out livestockexpo.org/Show%20Results/miscellaneousResults.aspx
