Ante up for Governor Dodge State Park
DODGEVILLE - You won't want to miss this day at the park. The park being referred to is Governor Dodge State Park, 4175 Highway 23 N, one of the state’s largest and most beloved parks in Wisconsin.
The Friends of Governor Dodge Equestrians are hosting the Ante Up Governor Dodge State Park Poker Ride at Governor Dodge State Park from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Sunday, June 4. Registration opens at 9 a.m.
The fun event challenges hikers and riders to collect the winning poker hand as they navigate the beautiful trails. The fun starts at Twin Valley Picnic Shelter, which overlooks one of the two beautiful lakes at the park. Participants will make five stops along their routes and, upon returning to the picnic shelter, see their poker hands entered and evaluated.
With over 5,000 acres, Governor Dodge is in Iowa County, less than an hour away from Madison, Baraboo, or Dubuque. Since Governor Dodge is in an area that was untouched by the glacial activity of the last ice age, the park’s terrain is varied and dramatic, with high ridges, deep valleys, and stunning rock formations. With over 5,000 acres and nearly 25 miles of well-maintained horse trails, Governor Dodge State Park offers some of the most beautiful terrain in Wisconsin.
Hikers will enjoy a separate route that will be guided by the park naturalist who will point out things of interest, as well as stop along the way to draw cards. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three poker hands. No knowledge of poker rules is necessary, but good luck sure can’t hurt.
In addition to the poker ride/hike, there will also be a picnic lunch with hot sandwiches and plenty of fixings, along with some fabulous raffle items.
Proceeds fund equestrian projects at the park.
The Friends of Governor Dodge-Equestrians, as part of the Friends of Governor Dodge State Park, work to support recreation, education, and environmental stewardship in our beautiful park. The special focus is on promoting and enhancing equestrian opportunities at Governor Dodge.
Vehicle stickers and trail passes are waived during the first weekend in June.
Registration is $30 and can be done online at GovDodgeEquestrians.com or email email@example.com for registration forms. Register by May 15 to get a free T-shirt.
