Register for Forage Council winter meeting

Dodge County Forage Council will be holding their annual meeting on Feb. 10.

Juneau — Producers, consultants, agronomists, and nutritionists are invited to attend the 2017 Dodge County Forage Council Winter Meeting on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at the Dodge County Administration Building Auditorium, 127 East Oak St., in Juneau, WI.

Registration begins at 10:45 a.m., with the program starting promptly at 11 a.m. Morning presentations will include, “Will your building remodel pass an insurance inspection?” presented by Wisconsin Reinsurance Corporation, and  Dr. John Goeser, from Rock River Laboratory, addressing “2016 Stressed Feed: How to get maximum return on low quality feed".  The afternoon sessions will include Dr. Yoana Newman, Asst. Professor of Forages –UWRF, speaking about “Getting to know low lignin alfalfa,” and Dr. Loretta Ortiz-Ribbing, UW-Extension Crops and Soils Area Agent explaining “Winter Weather Impacts”.

Certified Crop Advisors can earn 1 CEU credit (0.5 Crop Management; 0.5 Nutrient Development) by attending.

The Dodge County Forage Council annual meeting will follow the presentations and include a Midwest Forage Association (MFA) update, annual business, a review of 2016 activities, planning for 2017 events, and an announcement of the forage contest winners.

Producers may enter the forage contest by bringing in their best forage to be judged by their peers during the lunch break. Categories include: Dry Hay, Baleage, Haylage, and Corn Silage.There is a limit of one entry per category allowed. Please bring silage and haylage in 1-gallon ziplock bags; baleage and dry hay in garbage bags.

Everyone attending the meeting will be able to vote once for each forage category. Votes will be tallied and prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category, during the afternoon annual business meeting. Attendees must be present to win.

Registrations with meal counts are required by Friday, Feb. 3, for lowest price. A late fee will be charged after Feb 3. Registration fees include the program; meal, materials, and annual Dodge County Forage Council dues. If interested, you can also pay for your membership in the Midwest Forage Association, when you registration.
