Sunday fire destroys Calumet barn

Wisconsin State Farmer
A firefighter battles a blaze in sub-zero temps on this farm near Brandon. The fire in Calumet township is the third fire in Fond du Lac Co. where farm buildings have been destroyed.

Calumet — Though a fire destroyed a barn in the township of Calumet Sunday evening, no people — or a horse that lived there — were injured in the blaze.

At about 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, and the Calumet Fire Department were called to a barn fire at W1446 Highway HH, east of Pipe. The barn was primarily used for storing hay and wood. No one was injured in the fire, but officials consider the barn a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it does not appear suspicious, according to a release. Nearly two dozen agencies from surrounding areas assisted at the scene of the blaze.

This is the third fire in Fond du Lac County that destroyed farm property. Two machine sheds and their contents were destroyed in a fire on Dec. 17 on Lost Arrow Rd., south of Fond du Lac, while a horse died in a barn fire on Jan. 5 on a farm near Brandon.
