Congressman Duffy to co-chair dairy farmer caucus
Washington — U.S. Representative Sean Duffy (R-WI) is now a co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Dairy Farmer Caucus.
The Caucus is group of Members of Congress dedicated to educating other members on the importance of the dairy industry to the United States economy. The caucus will also work to maintain and strengthen the relationship between the United States House of Representatives and the dairy industry.
“My new role on the Dairy Farmers Caucus will allow me to be even more involved in the policy affecting one of the biggest industries in our state. I’m proud to be supported by state and national dairy groups on my new position, and I look forward to working with them and my colleagues in Congress for the benefit of all Wisconsin farmers,” Duffy said of his new role.
Dairy groups in Wisconsin and around the country applaud Congressman Duffy’s new co-chairmanship of the Congressional Dairy Farmer Caucus:
“Congressman Sean Duffy's selection as co-chair of the dairy farmer caucus is a great win for Wisconsin's dairy farmers. With dairy farmers facing current challenges such as low market prices, the need for immigration reform and export market challenges, they will be looking to Congressman Duffy to help guide meaningful dairy policy in order to keep our dairy farms strong and growing," said Jim Holte, president of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation. "This year will start the 2018 Farm Bill discussions and now, more than ever, we need Congressman Duffy's strong voice and advocacy for Wisconsin's dairy farmers.”
Michael Dykes, President and CEO of the International Dairy Foods Association said Duffy has been a stalwart supporter of the dairy industry since he first came to Congress in 2011.
"We look forward to working with him in his new position." Dykes said.
The Dairy Caucus has been and will continue to be the bipartisan forum for addressing the priority issues of dairy farmers across the country, including farm policy, trade, immigration, nutrition, taxes and the environment, said Jim Mulhern President and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation.
"Rep. Sean Duffy has supported dairy farmers throughout his time in Congress on many issues, and we look forward to continuing to work with him as he becomes a co-chair of the caucus,” he said.
Laurie Fischer, founder and CEO of the American Dairy Coalition, said the 30,000 members of her organization look forward to working closely with Duffy.
"We know that Congressman Duffy will put the interests of dairy producers first when considering policy initiatives. And as the voice of American dairy producers, the American Dairy Coalition is thrilled to work with Rep Duffy and the Congressional Dairy Farmer Caucus to secure a reliable labor force, reducing burdensome regulations and increasing dairy exports,” she said.
