Warrens — Mark your calendars! The Heart of the Farm-Women in Agriculture conference set for Dec. 9, 2016, at the Three Bears Lodge, in Warrens.
The Heart of the Farm-Women in Agriculture conference series is a University of Wisconsin-Extension program that is committed to addressing the needs of farm women by providing education on farm business topics, connecting them with agricultural resources and creating support networks.
This conference will provide women with the opportunity to network with other farm women and learn about crop insurance, land rental agreements and the impact of pollinators in WI. Come and get your herd health questions answered and taste delectable chocolates provided by ROOTS Chocolates of Wisconsin Dells. The conference begins with registration at 9:30 a.m. and will conclude at 3:15 p.m. with chocolate and other door prizes.
Topics and presenters
Considerations for Written Ag Land Rental Contracts: Bill Halfman, UW-Extension Monroe County agriculture agent. Bill will provide an overview of considerations to be included in farm land rental contracts to help tenants and landowners maintain positive working agreements and prevent problems.
What's up with Pollinators and What Can You Do to Help? PJ Liesch, UW-Extension insect diagnostics specialist at UW-Madison. Whether we realize it or not, pollinators impact our everyday lives from the aisles of the grocery store to our Wisconsin farms. In this talk, we'll take a look at the world of pollinators, see what's affecting them, and learn what everyday people can do to help out bees and other pollinators.
All About Crop Insurance: Paul Mitchell, UW-Extension cropping systems and environmental management specialist at UW-Madison. Dr. Mitchell will provide insurance information for all types and sizes of farms-from large cropping to direct marketing farms.
Ask a Vet! Gina Zastoupil, DMV, Tomah Large Animal Veterinary Service. Have your list of herd health questions ready so that you can get your answers in this session with Dr. Zastoupil.
Sweet Success: From IT Management to Chocolate? Lisa Nelson, Roots Chocolates, Wisconsin Dells. Lisa will share the story of her sweet success through melding her love of chocolate with being a fourth generation farm owner to creating a career she loves through Roots Chocolates. Don’t forget to try some tasty samples!
