Plymouth: Big Cheese Drop. New Year's Eve begins with music, s'mores, pudgie pies and cheese around a bonfire at 8:30 p.m., then a big cheese drop at 10 p.m. and a champagne toast at midnight at the Plymouth Arts Center. See plymoutharts.org.

Rice Lake: Tuscobia Winter Ultra. Run, bike or ski 80 or 160 miles in this race on the Tuscobia State Trail Dec. 29-31.
