'Wrinkle in Time' soundtrack gets new Sade music
Filmmaker Ava DuVernay announced Tuesday that her upcoming Disney adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time" will feature a roster of female artists for the film's soundtrack including a new original song from Sade.
DuVernay described the unforgettable journey of scoring the songstress for a new song called "Flower of the Universe."
"I never thought she'd say yes, but asked anyway. She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I'll never forget," the "Selma" director wrote. "...And it's a dream come true."
Adu's eponymous band debuted with 1984's "Diamond Life" and carried the smooth jazz, adult contemporary sound over six albums across three decades. The Grammy Award-winning group's last album, "Soldier of Love," reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 2010.
"A Wrinkle in Time" in theaters
"A Wrinkle in Time" will be released March 9 and the soundtrack features other artists including Demi Lovato and DJ Kahled, Chloe x Halle, Kehlani and Sia. DuVernay described the soundtrack as a journey beyond the stars.
"My hope was to gather dynamic women artists to craft a majestic soundtrack for Meg's journey," DuVernay shared.
The latest adaptation of Madeline L'Engle's 1962 science fiction-fantasy novel stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine and Storm Reid. It follows a young girl who embarks on a interstellar quest to find her missing father.
