Green Bay — Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation updates are scheduled at four places in east central Wisconsin counties during the mid-winter. They are designed for CAFO owners and managers; nutrient management plan writers; and agricultural facility engineers.
At each update, representatives of the Department of Natural Resources and the University of Wisconsin Extension Service will provide updates and reminders on the farm practices that assure compliance with a CAFO permit. These include runoff control and collection; monitoring; and reporting.
The DNR's Joe Baeten will share observations on nutrient management, surface application of liquid manure and the growing of cover crops. Each session will conclude with a question and answer period.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the meeting locations and times will the Tundra Lodge Conference Center (855 Lombardi Avenue) at 8 a.m. in Green Bay and the Crystal Falls Ballroom at noon in New London.
The Silver Valley Banquet Hall at 1222 South Alverno Road near Manitowoc will the site the 8 a.m. session Wednesday, Feb. 1. The Extension Service office at the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac will host the noon meeting on that day.
A buffet meal will be served at each location 25 minutes before the start of the meeting.
Until Monday, Jan. 23, the registration fee is $35 per person. It then increases to $45. Checks payable to Brown County Treasurer or cash should be sent to Brown County UWEX, Attn: Joan, 1150 Bellevue Street, Green Bay, WI 54302. Credit or debit card payment is not offered.
