Producers and agronomists are invited to attend the 2016 Dodge County Forage Council Winter Meeting on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Dodge County Administration Building Auditorium, 127 East Oak Street in Juneau.
Registration begins at 10:45 a.m., with the program starting promptly at 11 a.m.
Speakers include Shelli Tickler, Great American Insurance, who will speak about 'Crop Insurance Plan Coverage: Small Risk or Big Loss' and Brian Luck, PhD, Assistant Professor, UW- Madison, Biological Systems Engineering, speaking on 'Getting Started with Precision Farming: Mapping, Apps, Information Overload'.
Following the 12:15 p.m. catered lunch and Forage Contest, Larry Hawkins, PAS or Daniel Olson, Byron Seeds , will discuss 'Sorghum Silage: Cost Savings or Big Gamble'.
At 2 p.m., the Dodge County Forage Council annual meeting begins with a Midwest Forage Association (MFA) update followed by the annual business meeting with a review of 2015 activities, planning for 2016 events and announcement of the forage contest winners.
Certified Crop Advisor CEU credits (1.5 Crop Management; 1 Professional Development) have been applied for.
Producers can bring their best forage to be judged by their peers during the 12:15 p.m. lunch break. Categories include: Dry Hay, Baleage, Haylage and Corn Silage — one entry per category allowed. Bring silage and haylage in 1-gallon ziplock bags; baleage and dry hay in garbage bags.
All attending will be able to vote once for each category. Votes will be tallied after lunch and prizes awarded during the annual business meeting — attendees must be present to win. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category.
Registrations with meal counts are required by Monday, Feb. 8, for lowest price. Registration is $15/person if registered by Feb. 8 and $20 after Feb 8. Registration fees include the program; an Edith's catered meal, materials, and annual Dodge County Forage Council dues. If interested in membership in the Midwest Forage Association, add $50 to registration for annual dues.
This meeting is co-hosted by Dodge County UW-Extension (UWEX), Dodge County Forage Council, and the Midwest Forage Association.
