MANITOWOC – A new dairy cattle barn will be built for the Expo-Ice Center just in time for the 2018 Manitowoc County Fair.

The existing dairy cattle barn has already been demolished to make room for the new barn. Construction will begin in March and the project is expected to be done by Aug. 1, according to a press release.

In the press release, Expo-Ice Center Board Chairman Jerome Vetting said the new barn "will be the anchor of the Manitowoc County Fair and will ensure the existence of the Manitowoc County Expo and the fair at the current location."

The project is expected to cost $623,700, which includes a lean-to roof to cover the wash racks and two ADA-accessible restrooms. According to the press release, Expo Facility Manager Jennell Krizek is working to secure a sponsor that will be given naming rights and is willing to fund additional amenities to the new building.

A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the barn will be held during the week of the 2018 Manitowoc County Fair, Aug. 21-26.
