NorthStar recognizes staff

NorthStar salesrRepresentatives Tim Rau of Abbotsford and Wayne Westrich of Unity as well as A.I. Specialist Gary Popp of Unity were awarded a National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB) Award. The NAAB awards recognize career achievements including the Quarter Century Award, the 35,000 Service Award and the 100,000 Service Award.

Joining NorthStar in 1989, Rau was awarded the NAAB Quarter Century Award. This award recognizes employees for 25 years of service in the A.I. industry and their commitment to both dairy and beef producers.

Rau provides A.I. sales and herd management products to producers in Price, Taylor and Clark counties.

Westrich began working with NorthStar in 1990. Westrich provides service and products to producers in Marathon, Wood and Portage counties.

Popp was awarded the 35,000 NAAB Service Award, recognizing his 35,000 first services. Popp joined NorthStar in 2011 and provides A.I. services for dairy and beef producers in Marathon, Wood and Portage counties.

A.I. Specialist Brian Pionek of the western region also received an NAAB award.

Pionek's award recognizes his 300,000 first services since joining NorthStar in 2004. Additionally, Pionek was awarded the Select Sires Service Elite Club Award. This award recognizes sales and service area growth for Select Sires member cooperative service A.I. specialists.

Currently, Pionek provides A.I. services to dairy and beef producers near Buffalo, Chippewa, Eau Claire, Jackson and Trempealeau counties.

In the eastern region, sales representative Terry Kraning of Seymour, and A.I. Specialists Matt Cracraft of Francis Creek, and Dan Zernicke of Bonduel were awarded the NAAB Award.

Joining NorthStar in 1989, Kraning was awarded the NAAB Quarter Century Award. This award recognizes employees for 25 years of service in the A.I. industry and commitment to both dairy and beef producers. Kraning provides A.I. sales and herd management products to producers throughout eastern Wisconsin.

Cracraft was awarded the 35,000 NAAB Service Award, recognizing his 35,000 first services. Cracraft began working with NorthStar in 2008 and provides A.I. services for dairy and beef producers in Kewaunee, Manitowac and Sheboygan counties.

Celebrating 100,000 first services, Zernicke accepted the 100,000 NAAB Service Award. Zernicke has been providing A.I. services to producers in Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca and Winnebago counties since 1993.

Taylor leads trade mission

Leaders from seven state departments of agriculture and 23 U.S. agribusinesses and organizations will accompany Deputy Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agriculture Services Alexis Taylor on a trade mission to Hong Kong and Shanghai Sept. 7 to Sept. 15 to extend USDA's Women in Agriculture initiative abroad and expand export opportunities for U.S. food and agricultural products.
