Dakotafest Education Center unveiled

The IDEAg Group, LLC, producer of Dakotafest, is introducing the new Dakotafest Education Center, part of the larger Reaves Buildings Innovation & Technology Campus, at this year’s show, scheduled for Aug. 16-18, at Schlaffman Farm in Mitchell, SD.

The Dakotafest Education Center, sponsored by American Family Insurance, will feature three days of education sessions and political discussion.

As part of the sponsorship, American Family Insurance will present two education sessions focused on general farm safety principles. In addition to American Family Insurance’s sessions, the center will host educational presentations from South Dakota Farm Bureau and Thompson Law PC, as well as three separate political forums.

EAST LANSING, MI

Raterink recipient of Lake scholarship

Kelly Raterink of Zeeland, MI, was chosen as the 2016-17 recipient of the Glenn and Anne Lake Scholarship. The scholarship is named after Michigan dairy farmers Glenn and Anne Lake and provides $7,500 in scholarship money divided over two semesters. Glenn Lake served as president of the National Milk Producers Federation and provided leadership in creating the Great Lakes Milk Marketing Federation, which helped dairy farmers secure bargaining rights to market their milk.

Raterink is currently a senior at Michigan State University (MSU) and will graduate in May 2017 with a major in Animal Science. She was selected to receive this award based on her academic achievements, involvement in extracurricular activities, and interests in one day pursuing a career in the dairy industry.
