The executive director of the Kentucky Office of Agricultural Policy is being honored by the University of Kentucky.

Roger Thomas has been awarded the 2013 Thomas Poe Cooper Distinguished Farm Leadership Award.

Cooper, a former dean of the UK College of Agriculture, established a trust fund to recognize an outstanding farm leader annually in Kentucky.

Thomas has been Gov. Steve Beshear's agricultural adviser since 2008. He also serves as head of the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board and Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corp.
