Fundraiser for the Hershberger, Ruegsegger families

Feb. 25, 2014 | 0 comments

LOGANVILLE

In April 2013, a devastating fire at Grazin' Acres Farm, 6145 South Highway 33, Loganville, destroyed the machine shed/chicken house, as well as most of the farm machinery and round bales. All of the chickens perished. The Vernon Hershberger family suffered a $175,000 loss.

Through the efforts of the family and volunteers, a chicken house has been constructed and the poultry operation is back in full swing. The machine shed was erected in November. Both structures are awaiting completion and there is machinery still in need of replacement. A number of supporters offered personal loans.

The family feels it is time to repay their kindness and possibly ease a bit of the financial stress.

With the help of the Ken and Sherrie Rüegsegger family and their catering expertise, the Hershbergers will be hosting a Family Farm Fundraiser on Saturday, March 8 from 11 am-2 pm at "The Church," 2833 Raritan Road, in Fitchburg. The cost for the event is $25 per adult, $10 for those children aged 6-12, with no charge for children five and under.

The Rüeseggers, who operate Ruegsegger Farms and Paoli Grocery and Cafe, were hit especially hard by the 2012 drought. They are still struggling to recover. The event will benefit both families and is centered on an old-fashioned pig roast theme. Paoli Café's famous pulled pork sandwiches, gluten free vegetarian egg bake casserole and delicious side dishes will be featured.

Both families will be in attendance and look forward to sharing food and fellowship with their guests.

Those interested in attending are asked to call Paoli Grocery & Café at 608-845-3663 to pay with a credit card. Checks may be made out to Paoli Local Foods and sent to 6895 Paoli Road, Belleville, WI 53508. Attendees are asked to include their telephone number, email address, and a count of adults and children attending.
