The Granton FFA Chapter has been busy organizing a community carnival and dinner event for Saturday, Oct. 26.
All of the proceeds from the event will be used to help the Naedler Farm families as they begin the grueling process of rebuilding their dairy farm, which was destroyed by fire on July 18.
As a result of the fire, the barn was completely destroyed, along with all of the hay in the barn.
Over 80 head of dairy cows were lost and four silos were destroyed. The Naedler Farm is a joint partnership of two former Granton FFA members, Chad and Aaron Naedler, along with their parents Rodney and Janeen Naedler.
The FFA students understand the devastation that such a tragedy has had on the family and decided that they wanted to host some sort of benefit to help out. So, they have planned a Carnival event, which will be themed around Halloween.
For a fee there will be 25 games and activities for the children to participate in. There will be treats and prizes for the games, as well as cotton candy and popcorn for sale.
There will also be a costume contest, so everyone is encouraged to wear their best costume, including the adults.
Besides the FFA carnival, several community members have been working to host a food stand to raise additional funds. At the event there will be Wenzel brats and hotdogs and Arby's Roast Beef sandwiches for sale, along with chips, cheese curds and beverages for sale.
In addition, there are many great prizes being donated that will be available that evening, including a gun case, a half beef processed, two quarters of beef processed, theme baskets, cash and much more. There will be a silent auction and various drawings throughout the event, as well as a cake walk.
All events will run from 3:30-8 p.m., to accommodate the younger children and the farmers in the area.
The silent auction will conclude at 7:45 p.m. and food will be served after that for a while yet to make sure that everyone has a chance to participate. During the event there will be information available on gifting a heifer to the family.
The dinner will be held in the elementary gym, while the carnival and silent auction events will be held in the field house.
Organizers said they are still looking for volunteers that could help cook or serve food that day, as well as provide cakes or bars for the event.
