2014 calendar celebrates 136 barn quilts in Green County

Jan. 6, 2014 | 0 comments

GREEN COUNTY

The 2014 edition of the Green County Barn Quilt calendar is now available. The calendar features a seasonal photo of a different barn quilt for each month of the year along with fun facts about the barn or the farm location, plus a directory listing of all 136 quilt sites.

Green County started with a dozen quilts in 2008, and interest from leisure and group travelers has grown along with the project. Using a map in the Green County Visitor Guide, travelers can plan their own loop tours on scenic back roads.

"Barn Quilts and Backroads - Loop Tour #1" is a driving tour with turn by turn directions showcasing a dozen quilts in the northwest quadrant of the county. The tour includes an optional stop at New Glarus Brewing Company — home to the barn quilt named "Hop Scotch" in honor of the hops that are grown nearby the brewery entrance. Additional loop tours are planned for 2014.

To have a calendar shipped ($10, plus $5 shipping/handling); contact the Green County UWEX office at 608-328-9440. For more information about the project, visit www.greencountybarnquilts.com. To request a free Green County Visitor Guide including a barn quilt map, call toll free 1-888-222-9111.
