for 4-H Discovery Camp

March 29, 2012 | 0 comments

Open to youth ages 13-19, 4-H Discovery Camp takes place July 9-13 at Michigan State University (MSU).

Campers will stay in campus dorms and experience campus life while engaging in recreational opportunities and learning experiences.

They will explore Michigan's natural resources and growing agriculture industry and learn how they impact energy in everyday life.

Campers will work with MSU researchers who are developing the latest innovations in biofuel production and technology that offer alternatives to fossil-based fuels.

Participants will conduct their own experiments and create their own biofuel. They'll visit on-campus labs, the Kellogg Biological Station, Zeeland Farm Services, Carbon Green Bioenergy, a wind farm and the MSU Power Plant.

The five-day camp is $150 for 4-H members or $160 for non-4-H members. Cost includes all meals, field trip transportation, lodging and materials.

Space is limited; campers will be selected based on their applications.

Download application packets online at http://4h.msue.msu.edu/4h/events/event/4_h_discovery_camp.

Mail completed applications to Holly Lacina at lacinah@msu.edu or to your local MSU Extension office no later than May 1.

For more information, email Holly Lacina at lacinah@msu.edu, or call 517-432-7604.
