No-Till Row Crops Field Day, Oct. 19

Oct. 6, 2011 | 0 comments

A No-till Row Crops Field Day is slated Oct. 19 on the Dan and Adrienne Nelson family farm in Spirit.

Nelson has been using no till establishment as part of his row crop production system for the past four years. Guest speakers from the University of Wisconsin-Extension and the Natural Resources Conservation Service will provide background information on economics, yield comparisons and soil quality considerations in no-till systems compared to conventional tillage, along with cost share programs to help farmers work with this practice. The field day will include visits to field with corn, soybeans, and rye established by no-till and conventional methods into fields where there was corn, soybean, or sod stands the previous year.

The field day runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes lunch and program materials. Guest speakers include Dr. Dick Wolkowski, UW-Extension emeritus soil scientist, and NRCS District Conservationist Bob Plawski.

The fee to attend is $5 per person. Those interested should pre-register no later than Monday, Oct. 17. To register, call the Price County UW-Extension Office at 715-339-2555. Registration forms are also available at http://price.uwex.edu/.
