Minnesota man charged

with rustling cattle

Feb. 9, 2012 | 0 comments

A rural Montevideo man has been charged with rustling a herd of Holstein steers from a western Minnesota feedlot and selling them as his own cattle.

Forty-year-old Richard Kenneth Nelson was arrested and made his first court appearance Thursday (Feb. 2). He was freed after posting a $20,000 bond.

The complaint says a Madison, MN, feedlot reported 26 missing head with a market value of over $40,000. The owner did not have insurance on them.

Authorities allege that Nelson admitted to selling the steers at livestock markets in Benson and Pipestone.

After he was arrested, he produced check stubs and receipts from both sales.

He also allegedly admitted possessing a John Deere Gator utility vehicle and a trailer that were stolen last October.
