Soybean contest yield winners to be honored at Corn/Soy Expo

Dec. 29, 2011 | 0 comments

Even with a number of production challenges that occurred during the growing season, "2011 was another great year to be a soybean producer in Wisconsin."

This statement was made by Extension Service soybean and small grains production specialist Shawn Conley. He points out that the average yield of 47 bushels per acre in the state for this year was the third highest for any state.

One way in which the soybean industry draws attention to itself is the annual yield contest, which is sponsored by the Wisconsin Soybean Association and the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board. Conley reports that the number of entries in that contest rose significantly in 2011.

Five finalists have been identified for the separate non-irrigated and irrigated yield contests. The final rankings will be disclosed and awards will be presented Thursday, Feb. 2, at the 2012 Corn Soy Expo at the Kalahari Convention Center in Wisconsin Dells.

Finalists in the non-irrigated category are S&W Farms LLC of Platteville, with Dairyland's DSR 2770/RR; RnK Devoe Farms of Monroe, with Pioneer's 92Y51; and Zenz Farms of Lancaster, with Asgrow's 2403 variety.

The two named finalists in the irrigated class are AB Farms of Dallas, with Pioneer's 91M10, and Badgerland Grain Farms LLC of Edgerton, with Asgrow's 2330.

More information is available from Conley at 608-262-7975 or by email to spconley@wisc.edu.
