MANITOWOC

A year full of action was finalized on March 2 as an enthusiastic crowd of up-and-coming Jersey breeders gathered at Silver Valley Supper Club on March 1.

The Wisconsin Junior Jersey Breeders Association meeting, held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Jersey Breeders Association’s annual meeting, was an opportunity to acknowledge the talents and applaud the efforts of the younger generation.

Miranda Randall was chosen as the 2014 Wisconsin Jersey Queen and crowned by 2013 Queen Julia Owens, while JJBA members elected Jacob Leum as president, Miranda Randall as vice president, and Sydney Endres as secretary.

Senior Youth Awards

Taking the youngest folk into account, 2013 youth awards were split into three categories, up from two in previous years.

First place winner among senior youth, aged 16 to 20, was Sydney Endres, who took home the Steffanus traveling plaque sponsored by Milk-n-More Jerseys, along with $250 cash and a chance to compete in the National Junior Youth Achievement Contest. Second place and $150 cash went to Janelle Remington.

This year’s National Nominees were Sydney Endres and Jacob Leum, while Endres, Leum, Janelle Remington, Logan Voigt, Miranda Randall and Kohl Hoyer won scholarships.

Among intermediate youth, aged 12 to 15, first place honors with $150 toward a Badger Treasure Calf or $100 cash went to Austin Nauman. Second place and $100 towards a Badger Treasure Calf or $75 cash went to Emma Olsted.

Among junior youth, age 11 and younger, the winner of the Jersey calf donated by Hallet Dairy LLC was Jena Schoneck. As winner of the Lois Haeuser Memorial Award, Emma Schoneck was presented with a show halter.
