FOND DU LAC

Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Cheddar Cheese was the theme of the 10th annual Agriculture Showcase, March 2, at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Recreation Building.

Approximately 2,500 people attended this year’s Ag Showcase, an event that allows the general public to interact with businesses that have an agricultural aspect associated with the production of foods or agricultural products.

The goal of the Ag Showcase is to "bridge the gap between consumers and agricultural producers."

In addition to the over 50 vendor booths, the event included activities geared toward both kids and adults.

A baseball throwing cage, the Brewer’s Racing Sausages, face painting, coloring contest, and petting zoo were among the many items on the docket for the children. Apple pie floats, ice cream and cheese samples whetted the kid’s appetites.

Adults had the opportunity to take part in cheese, sausage, wine and beer tasting. In addition, "The Cooking Mom" Amy Hanten of Fox 11’s "Living with Amy" returned to the stage again this year, whipping up fast and easy recipes and promoting her new cookbook.

According to Brenda Gudex, director of the Agribusiness Council, the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Clubs’ Famous Racing Sausages, the Timber Rattlers’ Fang and "The Cooking Mom" Amy Hanten drew large crowds.

Gudex noted that this year kicked off the annual Money Raffle for the Ag Ambassador Program.

New this year was the "All-American Apple Pie" recipe contest, with co-sponsors Festival Foods awarding gift cards to the top three entries.

Co-sponsored by the Fond du Lac County Agri-Business Council, 1/2 of the $2 admission fee benefits the Fond du Lac Agricultural Ambassador Program. This year over $1,500 was raised, between the apple pie floats and the admission fee. Other funds are used to offset the cost of the showcase.

Main sponsors of the event are Festival Foods and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board (WMMB).

Additional sponsors include: Bluestem Bison (providing the sausage), Immel Insurance & Financial Services and Redtail Ridge (sponsoring Amy Hanten), We Energies, Agri-Partners Coop, CP Feeds, Badgerland Financial, BMO Harris Bank, and VirClar Farms (all donating for the coloring contest).
