Lely partners with NICC to help educate tomorrow's dairy farmers

Lely is proud to support the efforts of Northeast Iowa Community College and Iowa's Dairy Center. Lely and Fitzgerald, Inc., the local Lely Center in Elkader, IA, have worked closely with officials at NICC to give students, facility and staff access to the latest technology for the dairy industry.

The new robotic milking facility located south of the NICC campus in Calmar, IA, is equipped with two Lely Astronaut A4 robotic milking machines, five Lely Luna cow brushes, a Lely Juno automatic feed pusher and a Lely Discovery mobile barn cleaner. It will serve students enrolled in dairy science, large animal veterinary technician, pre-veterinary medicine and other agricultural programs.

In addition, Lely donated a set of "20 Years of Robotic Milking" books to the college. The textbooks explain the history of robotic milking and will help prepare students for a career in the dairy industry.

"We were able to create this facility and educational opportunity for our students through cooperation with many industry partners," explained Megan Kregel, dairy center coordinator for Northeast Iowa Dairy Foundation. "Lely and Fitzgerald Inc. were wonderful partners to work with, which is why we dedicated the visitor viewing area to those two organizations."

"The dairy industry has evolved over the last several years," said Rick Rugg, regional sales manager for Lely. "NICC has done an outstanding job of giving its students access to hands-on learning experiences. We are proud to be a part of the efforts to educate tomorrow's dairy farmers."

Iowa's Dairy Center is supported by the Northeast Iowa Dairy Foundation, a nonprofit, grassroots organization formed to prepare young men and women to operate dairy farms, provide ongoing education for existing dairy farmers and serve as a public educational facility.

Lely, founded in 1948, directs all effort toward creating a sustainable, profitable and enjoyable future in farming for its customers. Lely is the only company worldwide to supply the agricultural sector with a complete portfolio of products and services ranging from forage harvesting to automated feeding systems, barn cleaners and milking robots.
