Edgerton FFA to auction off restored John Deere B tractor on June 15

EDGERTON

Tractors and trucks galore are the highlight of the Edgerton FFA Alumni's annual Father's Day Truck and Tractor Pull to be held on Sunday, June 15, at RaceTrack Park in Edgerton. This year a special tractor will be featured, and auctioned off, in memory of one of the organization's lifetime members and event founders.

This past year, Edgerton FFA members have been working hard to restore a 1949 John Deere B tractor. Complete with tires baring the FFA emblem, this classic tractor is perfect for any tractor enthusiast.

The Edgerton FFA has restored at least a half dozen tractors over the years. This particular project was led by Dakota Salm, Matt Barrett, Ben LaValle and Kurt Weisensel, Edgerton FFA members and students at the Edgerton High School.

"Students benefit by being involved in bringing a weathered machine back to life. The work of seeing a project through to completion builds perseverance and pride of accomplishment," says Rick Reese, Edgerton FFA advisor and agriculture education instructor.

Proceeds from the sale of the tractor will initiate a scholarship fund in memory of Sid Watson. Watson was an active member of the Edgerton FFA Alumni, holding numerous officer positions and founding and chairing the organization's largest fund raiser — its annual truck and tractor Pull — for more than a decade.

"As a huge fan of John Deere tractors and an even greater supporter of youth in agriculture, it is only fitting this tractor be auctioned off in memory of Sid Watson," says Beth Weisensel, Edgerton FFA Alumni president.

The restoration project was financed by the Edgerton FFA and received support from Greg and Beth Weisensel, Titan International; Pomp's Tire; Tom Olson; Mike Hart, Newville Auto Salvage; Dan Deegan; Rick Reese; Tim Krausse; and Matt Harried.

The Edgerton FFA Alumni Truck and Tractor pull starts at 10:30 a.m. at the pulling track in RaceTrack Park, just off IKI Drive on Edgerton's west side. The live auction of the classic 1949 John Deere B tractor will occur around 1 p.m., just after the South Central Wisconsin Tractor Pullers classes and right before the Badger State Tractor Pullers classes. As always, the day will finish with a spectator truck pull.
