Four-year-old named grand champion of State Brown Swiss Show
"All I can say is 'Wow,'" said judge Chad Ryan, Fond du Lac, as he commented on his class-winning 4-year-old, Valligrove Jolt Nillimerle, at the 43rd Wisconsin Brown Swiss State Show, June 23 at the Waupaca County Fairgrounds, Weyauwega.
Bred and owned by Tory Callaway, Juda, later in the day this 4-year went on to become grand and senior champion, best bred and owned and best udder. As Ryan congratulated the owners, he commented, " I tell you what - this 4-year-old has one tremendous frame and udder - you got to like her balance and style."
Judge Ryan stayed with maturity as he named the winner of the Component Merit cow class, Random Luck V Taps-ET, bred and owned by Rick Thompson, Darlington, reserve grand and senior champion, adding "She's stood the test of time." This was one of many high-placing animals that earned Thompson the Premier Breeder and Exhibitor Banners.
High honorable mention grand champion was awarded to the intermediate champion, VoGrin Galaxy Shanigans, a senior 2-year-old bred and owned by Tammy Voegeli, Arlington. "She give me the goose bumps," stated Ryan, adding, "I love her frame and width and udder and she moves so freely."
The first-place senior 3-year-old, Riedland Denver Dreamer, was tapped for reserve intermediate champion for Ronald Kelm, Markesan. "She has a beautiful udder and is an extreme dairy cow," declared Ryan.
Garnering junior champion honors was Ole Acres PS Last Time, a summer yearling owned by Ryan Olson, Watertown, followed by the winning fall calf, M&M Nemo Shania, bred and owned by M&M Swiss, Alma Center. "These two heifers will do well down the road," remarked Ryan.
In junior competition, Hayden Hauschildt, Ellsworth found himself in the winner's circle with his junior 3-year-old, Jaden Premium Nastia-ET. "This cow's been fresh since December and she's ready today," stated Ryan.
Receiving reserve grand champion honors was Tiona Tulachka, Kewaunee, with her junior 2-year-old, Lost-Elm Vigor Silk. Ryan commented, "She's recently fresh and has a tremendous upside ... it looks like she's got a tremendous udder coming."
Ranae Holthaus, Bangor, brought out the junior champion of the junior show with her first-place winter yearling, AR-Line Galaxy Lady-A-ET. Reserve junior champion was awarded to Meghan Douglas, Darlington with her spring yearling, Random Luck S Peekaboo-ET. "This is a tremendous pair of yearlings - they have a bright future," said Ryan.
The top three juniors were Otis Johnson, Evansville, Hayden Hauschildt and Ranae Holthaus.
In showmanship competition, the top three in each of their respective age divisions were: Juniors (ages 9-12) - Lindsay Sarbacker, Edgerton, Elise Bleck, and Megan Douglas; Intermediate (ages 13-15) - Otis Johnson, Emily Gietzel, and Noah Hartleben; Seniors (16-20) - Hayden Hauschildt, Chris Voegeli and Ranae Holthaus.
Over 150 head, including 43 cows, were evaluated at the 43rd State Show. The top two placings, followed by the first- and second-place juniors were as follows:
