Vruwink seeks guaranteed county fair coordinator
The state Assembly recently passed a bill offered by Assembly Agriculture Chairwoman Amy Sue Vruwink that requires the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) to maintain its county fair coordinator.
“County fairs are vital to our community, to our youth and to the traditions of rural Wisconsin. This bill requires DATCP to maintain the current position of coordinating fairs throughout the state of Wisconsin, while working with the Wisconsin Fair Association,” Vruwink said of Assembly Bill 418, which passed the Assembly agriculture committee last month and passed the Assembly by a 94-0 vote.
“This is a very straightforward bill that will not cost taxpayers any money. Its main purpose is to make sure that the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection designate an employee within this state agency to serve as a county fair coordinator. We all realize how important are these fairs are to our agricultural community, and that’s why I introduced this legislation. The position needs to be put into the statutes so our fairs will remain represented throughout the state,” stated Vruwink.
She’s hopeful the state Senate will take up the bill in the next few weeks.
